Virgo Safety is an independent Health & Safety advisory company based in Castleford, West Yorkshire. We pride ourselves on offering a clear, pragmatic and tailored approach to benefit our Client’s with a personal touch.
We help and advise Clients to ensure that they comply with statutory and industry legislation in a clear, straightforward and simplistic manner – no fancy terminology or jargon used. We provide all of our Client’s with a first class service and offer individual Health & Safety packages to suit each and every type of business from sole traders to small and medium enterprises (SME's).

Joanne Moore - CMIOSH
Owner & Founder
Joanne has nearly twenty years experience within Health & Safety having started her professional career as a Health & Safety Administrator for a national scaffolding contractor. This is where she developed her passion for Health & Safety and supported the Health & Safety Department.
Joanne sat her NEBOSH General Certificate in 2005, completed her NVQ Level 4 in Occupational Health & Safety in 2012 and proudly obtained Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH) in early 2017.
Joanne has a pragmatic and collaborative approach to Health & Safety and works with individuals and engages them in a proactive manner.
Joanne is partial to a weak black tea and occasionally a bacon sandwich!

Competent Person
What is a Competent Person?
The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) state a Competent Person is ‒
A competent person is someone who has sufficient training and experience or knowledge and other qualities that allow them to assist you properly. The level of competence required will depend on the complexity of the situation and the particular help you need.
When getting help, you should give preference to those in your own organisation who have the appropriate level of competence (which can include the employer themselves) before looking for help from outside. You must consult health and safety representatives in good time on the arrangements for competent help.
Unfortunately for many different reasons, some companies whether a sole trader or a small and medium enterprise (SME) do not have access internally to competent Health & Safety advice.
Equally some companies do have access to competent Health & Safety advice from within their organisation. However, in certain situations the company may still require the assistance of an external competent person who they can call upon for assistance and advice.
This is where Virgo Safety can assist your company. In line with current legal requirements (Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations) we are able to act as your competent Health & Safety Advisor giving your company a cost effective Health & Safety solution. Your nominated Health & Safety Advisor will become familiar with your business and will understand the risks posed by your business and to your staff and will help to mitigate those risks.
In addition to this service we can also assist your company in liaising with enforcing authorities such as the Health & Safety Executive (HSE), Environmental Officer and Local Authority Officer in the event of any accidents and incidents occurring within or affecting your organisation
